CUTES liquid ring vacuum pumps use the most popular cone design.
The inlet and outlet ports are located in a stationary cone that fits
between the rotating shaft and the rotor.

FLAT PORT PLATE versus CONE
|
Most manufacturers of liquid ring pumps have standardized on the cheaper "flat-sided"-design using a flat port plate:
Gas enters and leaves the rotor chamber from the side (axially).
In a CUTES vacuum pump the large inlet and discharge port areas in the cones
ensure that flow losses are reduced and that the fill level of the chambers is increased.
The cone-ported pump is able to handle more liquid:
A portion of the seal liquid or additional liquid can be sprayed via a nozzle
into the gas / vapour stream at the inlet, without flow resistance arising
but with the benefit of a cooling and condensation effect.
An other advantage of Cutes cone design is the tight tolerance maintained between rotor and cone,
reducing the by-pass losses between discharge (atm. pressure) and inlet (vacuum). This clearance can be easily adjusted in case of wear.
